Naomi Shihab Nye
For several days in January, poet Naomi Shihab Nye was invited to spend time with students at several ISS Chinese schools. While visiting NCPA in Nansha, Naomi interacted with students and was able to observe their mastery of the English language. NCPA and Shekou are both proud pilot ("catalyst") schools for the ISS World Language Initiative (WLI) English as an Additional Language program. We are delighted to include her thoughts in this blog post.

The TARA Conference Committee
The TARA organizers recognize the challenges facing Arabic educators today. As new practices, programs and approaches are developed we recognize that professional collaboration is needed in order to bring isolated initiatives together to form a strong foundation for Arabic learning in the 21st century. TARA hopes to bring together the most respected educators, authors, researchers, professional developers and policy makers to share and learn from one another in a unique platform for a dialogue the region urgently needs.
